Hope’s Story
Hope Nyanjura is a 23-year-old girl from Uganda, Africa. She is also the inspiration for Dream Girl. Her mother Victoria escaped from captivity with her after being kidnapped by the LRA years ago. Victoria turned to education to take back her life and it led her to becoming the principal at St.Bahkita’s Vocational School for Girls.
Jo met Hope while in Kologo, Uganda working on a project for the University of Notre Dame in collaboration with St.Bahkita’s. It was best friends at first sight. Within a day of meeting, Jo knew Hope was a rarity. She spoke with dazzled eyes about her dreams of going to law school and becoming the UN Ambassador for her home country.
From that moment, Jo made it her mission to guide Hope to apply for college in the United States (at Notre Dame). They met in January 2023. In August 2023, Hope was on a plane for the first time, leaving her country for the first time, and headed to America to pursue a college degree. She went on to get a 4.0 that first semester. She is now in her junior year at the University of Notre Dame and has since studied abroad in France and London [ask about award she got] and continuing to infect others with her contagious spirit / to make the world a better place (And we are so proud of her!!!!!!!).
Hope is a brave, emotionally intelligent, wise beyond her years young woman who knows what she wants in life and isn't afraid to take the leap. She is the very first Dream Girl.
